Your choice for wedding music will add the finishing touches on your ceremony,
reception and dance. The ceremony music is usually monitored by the officiant and
some officiants have more policies than others. It is important to consult with your
clergyperson concerning the music you will use for your ceremony. Your clergyperson
will also be able to suggest options and alternatives for music that will complete
your wedding. The most important thing you need to remember about music is that it
should represent you as a couple. Depending on your ceremony, you will at least have
three songs played, but you should plan on more. A beautiful song will keep the guests
entertained while they are waiting for the ceremony.

Prelude - This begins 30 minutes before the ceremony while the guests are being
seated. This music should be light and airy instrumental music. Some couples choose
to have soloists sing at this time. The parents, as well as all other guests, are seated at this time.
Processional - This is the music the wedding party and bride are walking down the aisle. The bride's processional music tends to be louder with additional instruments involved.
Ceremony - Your guests may want to participate in singing as well as listen to vocalists. The hymns you choose should be easy for all the guests to participate in. It will be beneficial for you to have a vocalist leading each song for the guests.
Recessional - Rejoice with jubilant music. This music should be at a faster pace with a cheerful beat to it.
Postlude - These lively selections will be played until all the guests leave the ceremony site.

I feel that the most important part of a wedding day is that everyone involved
has a memorable and wonderful time. Your musicians are an intricate part of the
success of your reception. Whether you choose a deejay or a band, you must ensure
they know your needs and expectations. You should first find your musicians by
referrals. I would highly suggest after you have interviewed musicians, ask where
they will be playing. Attend one of their performances, preferably a wedding, to see
their work. This will allow you to not be suprised on your wedding day. After you see
the musicians, you will either be confident in your choice or choose to continue looking.
- Date, time and place
- Equipment provided or rental fees
- Have all names of musicians and phone numbers, in addition to back up musicians (in case they are needed)
- Hours scheduled to play, cost for overtime, number of breaks usually taken, continuous music
- All fees to play for the day and payment policies
- Attire of all musicians
Your musicians should meet with you ahead of time to schedule the whole evening. They should be enthusiastic and willing to create a fabulous show for all present. At your first meeting, you need to be explicit on you needs for the reception. It is important to be as precise and detailed as possible. This will lessen the communication gap and you will not have the musicians asking you questions at the dance. You will also want to give them a list of songs you would like to have played.
Most musicians have their own equipment, however, you need to make sure. You will want the musicians to set up and take down their equipment. You may need to call the reception hall manager and ensure the musical equipment is compatible with the hall's system.
